IGNORANCE OF THE LAW and RULES IS NO EXCUSE
Verr Fjord is fairly strict Gorean (lifestyle) yet allows RP for enjoyment.
EVERYONE MUST wear the GOREAN METER combat meter found on the dock.

Verr Fjord is a village on the southern edge of Torvaldsland – it borders the Northern forest – and hardy – cold tolerant panthers can survive the winter in it’s forest and caves. It is a landing with a road leading to the interior cities and villages of the North – and Inn and small market, even a clinic, support travelers. It is more welcoming of strangers than most of the north – and even some nomadic red savages have made camp. The ruins of Torvald’s Tower have been restored by a Mercenary band. There have been reports of Kurii sightings – even rumors of a hidden base for the beasts. We moved from the south – and retain some southern customs..
ROLE PLAY RULES
OUR RULES vs OTHER SIM RULES:
If it happens or starts here OUR RULES apply. If you abduct someone from here, OUR branding, sale and death RULES APPLY in that SIM - including the 3 day buy back. If action starts in another SIM and one of ours is collared, captured, killed, etc.,, THAT SIMs rules apply. If you catch one of ours elsewhere and bring them here - we will honor the rules of the SIM where it started.
SAFE ZONES
The only safe zones within the Village (including all it's upper “plateau” levels) are the 3 docks (Merc’s panther’s and village), inside residences (if you are not chased into them) and the arena level which has it's own rules! The DOCKs are a safe zone for 10 minutes after arrival... OOC people or meterless people MUST be respected... Our shopping is integrated into the SIM and shoppers are ALWAYS neutral!
AVATARS
Speaking Human or Kurii avatars are allowed. (No Furries, robots, dragons, vampires or elves, etc.)
Non- speaking AV animals native to Gor ARE permitted - IF they behave as an animals – chat restricted to emotes.
NO child avatars are allowed in this mature SIM. -- All avatars must appear a tleast 18 years of age, there is no exception of this rule, any childlike avatars will be asked to change to an adult AV or leave or be ejected.
OBSERVERS AND OOC (Out-Of-Character)
OBSERVERS should use GOREAN METER and set it to OOC. NO repeated observer visits - first visit only - (If you are new to Gor we will treat you as described in Norman's books, so be careful, but you won't learn by just watching.)
OOC is to be avoided - if you wish to speak OOC do it in IM's PLEASE USE “/22” for OOC - dispenser near Meter – USE IT.
Our goal is to BE Gorean - IC (In-Character) as much as possible. Gorean dress is expected – dress like an earth person – you will be treated as a new arrival – and probably enslaved.
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (Combat Laws)
GOREAN WEAPONS ONLY!! (The Priest kings do not allow any modern weapons.)
==No jumping , no movement enhancers, no push weapons are prermitted. This includes exploiting any of SL’s glitches during combat.. .No spacebar running or jumping!
==No fly zone (people do not fly – only admin’s when OOC) - see tarns in Raids section
==Resetting your combat meter during battle will result in automatic capture unless the reset has been discussed with an Admin/Magistrate or agreed by all parties.
==Kills are three complete sentences and had better have a justifiable reason - or we will issue a warrant for you.
==Fighting slaves ARE allowed – and may serve as escorts to a FW
==Trained animals (AV – or scripted) with a meter may be used.
==We have no weapons restrictions by vendor – BUT weapons reported as “overspeed, “over-range”, or “over-strength” by the Meter will render combat invalid.
CAPTURES AND DEATH
==Captivity lasts 72 hours from time are bound, you may escape captivity provided your r/p is valid. No teleporting out except at the dock!
==Death is managed by your Meter – but not less than 24 hours RL. And please ghost yourself – ELSEWHERE. Use the ghost to go shopping and do not interact with the living. No Meter, you are OOC and not dead – and no damage you inflict is valid.
==Your persona does NOT have to die (unless YOU choose to RP that as would be better RP) and may resume after the ghost - recovered from a fever nightmare.
==Suicide is a 7 day BAN - AND a mandatory change of persona. This includes a slave intentionally assaulting a Free to be killed.
RAIDS AND TARNS
SCOUT WELL! We may have no walls and few if any visible guards - but we do have a few nasty surprises..
==Tarns do not like cold - and do not cross the Thassa - so they may not be FLOWN IN (rezzed on arrival) - unless a suitable ship to carry them is also rezzed first.. They are limited to the airspace above the fjord - the village plateau is too high and cold.
==SURPRISE raids are allowed but be careful – the Mercenaries and even the panthers – are on good terms with the village – and likely to help defend it.
==The Mercs and panthers have their own rules – and “turf”. The village trys to remain neutral – and will not block raids on their neighbors – but we may aid the Mercs if they ask.
==RESCUES of captives
A panther tribe or others may try to rescue a captured sister, warrior or FW - ONLY if he/she has no brand or bill of sale (past 3 days) - once branded or sold, she can not be rescued (stolen perhaps - but we onwn her). Same for outlaws, although a captured outlaw is unlikely to live long enough to be rescued.
==No Climbing walls or towers -- use a ladder or hooks. No rezzing ladders, wear them. (This does not mean when you get to your destination you put the ladder on and then drop it, you must be wearing it from the time you come off of the docks)
ASSASSINS
==Assassins are allowed to travel or live in the village. IF they conduct an attack they MUST wear the mark of a dagger on the forehead - from the time they enter the Village. Any attack must be planned - including an escape - no walk in and kill.. SCOUTING and ALL KILLS must be logged and a log submitted to the RP Moderator, Bridgette Boyd. Resident assassins must refuse contracts on other villagers – or residents of the village lands.
VILLAGE CUSTOMS AND BEHAVIOR
TRUCE
Any may enter the village to seek medical aid – dress codes, weapons and capture rules will not be enforced – as long weapons remain sheathed. The village will honor neutrality – but anyone other than a guard who draws a weapon or shoots first – will be killed or captured.
CURRENCY
Gorean Exchange Rate:
a copper bit = 1L$, a copper coin is 10L$,
a silver tarsk is 100L$, and 1 gold tarn =1000L$
Trade in the village is by either Lindens or RP of coin and trade goods: Furs and animals including slaves are acceptable - we really don't want arrow heads. (consider lindens as a tip)
FREE MEN (FM)
Slaves will call the Free Men “Jarl”. Free Men may also call a Leader “Jarl” Free women should address a man by his title or “Sir”
Free Men of the north are warriors -- ALL men are allowed and expected to protect the village.
We still have a caste system in Verr Fjord for the various other roles..
Disputes may be settled by any of the appropriate weapons in the arena, with at least one Village Citizen in attendance. The RULES of the arena apply - and the agreed terms and results WILL be enforced.
FREE WOMEN (FW)
Veils are optional. Showing heat, getting drunk, dancing, or visiting the tavern's alcoves will justify an immediate and permanent collar.
==FW are not permitted to wear or use MENS weapons – large bows, crossbows, swords or axes. They may carry, display and use dagger/knife or throwing knives and hairpins. They may wear and use some concealed ranged weapons: an up the sleeve mini crossbow; a concealed sectional spear - or concealed throwing knives. If you come in the village with an improper or unconcealed ranged weapon you will be asked to remove it. Failure to comply will justify an immediate and permanent collar. Any woman who dares to draw a weapon on a free man may be captured or killed.
==All Free Women WHO ARE NOT CITIZENS should have a FREE MALE designated protector - should she find herself in trouble. All may visit - we respect the rights of properly behaved FW and welcome them. An escort is NOT required - though it is a good idea if you walk the road to Runes Village on the far side of the village.
==Unescorted FW will be offered and provided Room and Board in the Tavern and discouraged from leaving without escort. She will be endebted to the tavernkeeper and the villlage for room and board and if she can not pay will be bonded. Payment must be provided in trade goods at the rate of one "(RP) barrel of kalana" per day.
==A she-urt is a FW - we won't collar/bond one in rags if that is all she can afford - as long as she is respectful.
==Outlaws - regardless of sex - if we know of a warrant - you are fair game for capture. (FW laws say no skin and so if you cover up - and have proper weapons - you are just a FW in tasteless clothing.)
==Panthers and Talunas – May enter – dressed as a Huntress – with escort – or to trade – simply wandering about will lead to their being treated as improperly dressed or armed FW.
F R E E W O M A N A N D T H E T A V E R N
1) The tavern in Verr Fjord - is located in the Valiant Verr Inn - and the Inn also serves as our longhouse.
Anyone may enter the longhouse - so there are NO restrictions or escort requirements to enter the Tavern.
2) Free women are expected to be have properly - getting drunk, etc will NOT be tolerated.
3) Free Women may not complain about any events happening in the tavern, you are in a mans domain, the bonds are there to please the Free Men, not make you feel comfortable.
4) If there are no bonds around, a Free woman may be asked to serve the men. This is one of your duties as well. All FW are taught to serve at a young age incase the time arises where their life may depend upon on it. Beware if you show heat during your serve you may remain on your knees..
5) Free women should never drink Kalana in a tavern. This is an aphrodesiac which will make a FW a slave for a hour....if you're lucky its that short. FM in the books did put Tassa powder in the drinks to render the FW unconscious, later to wake up in a collar.
6) There are rooms above the tavern - they are community sleeping area - the ones with doors would be used by companioned couples - BUT as the longhouse is also an Inn - they may be rented - as guest quarters - OR furring alcoves. Unless a public disturbance makes it obvious - no one may disturb occupants - EVEN if it is suspected that a FW is engaging in furring..
KURII
The Kurii are here in the north - just as we can not stop the snows - all we can do is survive. They must be classed as Free Men. We have a truce with ONE Kur - rugrah Grut - a Hand (leader of six) - he and his will not attack first - or steal our slaves. And we will give him condemned prisoners or slaves - or any that attack them - and live to be caught by us. Other Kurii – we will not shoot first – but must be considered a danger to life and property.
SLAVES
There two type of slave in the north, thralls and bondmaids - owned by a Jarl or a Mistress -- BUT we are southern exiles and respect Kajira and Kajirus and Master as well! In the north, Masters are called Jarl's - but we are southerners and mess this up all the time.
==Slaves must obey all Free of the village - or visiting Free if the orders do not violate their owner’s restrictions.
==Slaves MAY BE permitted weapons - trained male slaves may guard a Free.
Trusted bonds may carry a knife – appropriate to cleaning fish – it may NOT be concealed. Red Savage slaves may be armed according to tribal customs.
==By northern custom – female slaves are naked indoors – this is to prevent sweating before returning outdoors in the cold (wet clothes will freeze) (Thralls may retain limited coverings.) Slaves performing a dance – may wear silks to accompany their performance.
==Slaves of the north are bold. outspoken and sexual – expect it – and enjoy it.
Verr Fjord Village custom: When on SNOW - unless demanded by their owner, girls may stand (hands behind) (Also known as ‘bind’ on the amethyst collar) and are NOT expected to kneel - everywhere else, they do..
An unrestricted girl - is available to all inhabitants of these lands - Villager, Huntress or Mercenary - BUT the owner always has priority - and may call for a slave - even if that leaves things, "unfullfilled" - They are NOT available to people from other places - UNLESS they are working in the Inn's tavern and available as part of that task.
COLLARING
ALL COLLARING WITHIN VERR FJORD IS TO THE VILLAGE UNLESS RESULTING FROM A SALE -OR- A SUBMISSION of a FW. Slaves who submit – become village property as follows: All village slaves will be turned over to the Kennel for training in Village customs and Gor as needed. When deemed "saleable" by the slaver, they will be offered at cost first the one who collared her, second, to the city, and third as the slaver sees fit - retention, private sale or auction.
==If anyone is captured and refuses to submit to a collar – we kill them. They may be given to Kurii, fed to sleen, or executed with honor if they are a warrior – captor’s choice.
==If one is collared and found have lied and actually have an owner - and be a runaway, the owner will be notified and the slave may be bought back for 5 silver coins (or 500L$).
==If a FW is collared, relatives or family may buy her freedom for five silver or 500L$ within 3 days.
==If an outlaw, Panther or Taluna is collared - if they submit we hold them for 3 days for their tribe or band to buy them out - with L$, another slave or furs or animals.. If not bought out, after 3 days we sentence them to serve as arena bait girls or hold them as village bonds.
==Conviction for crimes, including couching law violations - the collar is immediate and permanent and sale at auction is likely with notice to all of Gor.
==AFTER 3 days, ALL collaring and ownership becomes permanent - and unbranded slaves will be branded.
**If you wish to submit and become a village slave contact the Slaver, or Village Captain Lyndal Homewood. Subsequent sales are permanent.
When collared permanently, all property is forfeited - your slaves become city slaves unless someone else holds title (an FC or your business partner). Rentals may only be rented by the Free - your new owner will take over for the term of the lease. (The Captain MAY assign a rental to a slave - to be maintained for an absentee owner - see Abandoned property.)
FREEING OF SLAVES
If a slave is privately owned by a citizen of Verr Fjord - and that citizen chooses to FREE the slave - they must provide a Letter of Manumission. As of the instant that letter is passed, the now freed slave becomes a citizen of Verr Fjord in their own right.
DESTRUCTION OF INFERIOR ANIMALS
A truly displeasing or unsaleable slave should be turned over to the village to feed to the village sleen, or be given to the Kurii as feed cattle. Keep our village and fjord clean - don't cut them up or drown them.
ABANDONED PROPERTY:
Slaves not having a response or contact with their owner for 14 days are deemed abandoned and become bond to the Village. If you need to be offline for more than two weeks - you may ask the Captain to assign maintenance of your home and property to a slave - You must also have your slave report to the Village Slaver or a Free Villager of your choice to act as Master/Jarl in your absence.
==Property (prim items) left in the village - without paying rent will be returned.
==Failure to pay your rent - after a 4 days grace period - you will be evicted and all property returned - AND your slave(s) are forfeit to the Village.
RUNAWAYS from Verr Fjord:
Any collared or submitted slave who runs (leaves without release or sales papers) - their next master will be required to pay their training costs and the cost of the collar (600L$) if it is not returned, but not less than 500L$ ) or barter equivalent in slaves, furs, food or animals. If paid, a Bill of Sale will be provided - if not paid, notices will be posted offering the slave to any who catch the slave - for that fee. Fees for runaways ARE in Lindens..
CRIMINAL PROCESS
CAPITAL CRIMES, which might include but are not limited to:
~~ Theft of the Homestone, vandalism of the Homestone, assault on the Captain or his FC, griefing or spamming are subject to torture, and/or death - and possible - ejection and banishment.
~~ Terms of truce with Kurii require that ANY attack on a Kurii be a death sentence - usually carried out by the Kurii. Remember, humans are cattle - food beasts to them..
~~ Murder - (of a free) - except when conducted by a Black Caste assassin - who has properly notified the Village Captain, magistrate or Guard Commander prior to the act - is punishable by collaring or death as decided by the Village Captain.
~~Traitorous actions – or actions leading to attacks on the village is punishable by exile – torture, and/or death with ejection and banishment MAY be the result.
The magistrate, in both civil and criminal matters, will judge all cases – with the exception of panthers and other outlaws, NO FREE OR ONE WHO CLAIMS TO BE A FREE WILL BE EXECUTED WITHOUT JUDICIAL PROCESS. If there is no serving or available Magistrate – the Captain or the First Axe will perform this function. There is limited appeal to the Village captain - BUT he will be sure to increase the severity of a sentence if your appeal fails... Trial is swift - but you will be given an opportunity to be heard and offer evidence.
LOGGING OF CHAT (NOT IM) - IS ALLOWED - AND IS THE ONLY ACCEPTED FORM OF TESTIMONY.
LESSER CRIMES:
** Theft - first offense - ear notch, second enslaved, if slave – facial brand, third, fed to sleen.
** Assault, rape, shooting or stabbing, etc - collared to the victim.
** ANY THREAT of Rape or death made against a FW is considered as bad as comitting the act!
** Attempting to collar or abduct any free - you will be collared to the victim.
**Attempting to blackmail any city official or interfere with villager performing a job in the village in an attempt to prevent him or her from doing their job will result in jail time. Jail time that will be RL logged on non-idle hours. It’s not pleasant, don’t do it!
